All the business buildings and dwellings situated within the corporate limits of the City of Minneapolis shall be numbered in the manner and according to the plans hereinafter specified.
The initial or starting lines shall be First Street and Rock Street, numbering as follows: north and south from First Street, and east and west from Rock Street, and allowing One hundred (100) numbers to each block. All short and angling streets shall take the nearest parallel corresponding block number. Said streets used as starting lines, together with the extension of the same, shall be used as bases for numbering houses in all present or future additions to the city. The even numbers shall be put on the right hand side of the street and the odd numbers on the left hand side of the streets, reckoning in the direction the numbering proceeds, and allowing not more than Twenty-five (25) feet for each number. The lots on the north side of First Street shall be styled “North” and the lots on the south side shall be styled “South.” The lots on the east side of Rock Street shall be styled “East” and those on the west side shall be styled “West.”
The figures used in numbering shall not be less than two and one-half (2 ½) inches in height and shall be clearly legible, and shall be conspicuously placed on the front of each house.
All buildings shall be numbered in compliance with the provisions of this article with in thirty (30) days after the completion thereof.
Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this article shall, upon conviction thereof, be fined in any sum not exceeding five dollars ($5.00). Each week after the first conviction in which such person shall fail or refuse to comply with the provisions of this article, shall be deemed a new offense.
